Goal

In the fall of 2023, I developed an educational video on the history of the color acid yellow as part of my motion graphics class final. Our objective was to create a digital storytelling project using one of the short stories from Kassia St. Clair's "The Secret Lives of Colour."

I chose the color Acid Yellow and aimed to tell the story by documenting the rise and cultural shift of the yellow Smiley Face. Motion in this project was inspired by the work of Cync Smart Bulbs and Kurzegsagt videos.

Script and Storyboard

Using St. Clair's chapter on acid yellow, I wrote out a script and utilized additional sources to round out the story. This was then developed into a storyboard to lay out the motion.

Asset Creation and Animation

I vectorized assets I found using Illustrator with the exception of the hand and phone, which I created. These were then brought into After Effects were they were animated.
